The original Creole well, and a garden in the middle of town
The house has kept its original well, preserved in place at the heart of the property. It is not a decorative copy: it is the well the house was built around, and it has been carefully protected through the renovation. Guests notice it first, and it sets the tone for everything else.
The second surprise is the garden. Downtown Cayenne is dense, so a genuine green space behind a city house is rare. Here it extends the living area at the back — a shaded, private pocket of calm that works just as well for a coffee at dawn as for a long evening under the tropics. One guest summed the place up as a haven of serenity in the middle of the city.
Inside: space, air conditioning and a bathtub
The renovation aimed for comfort rather than reinvention. The living spaces are large and full of daylight, and the sleeping arrangements are made for a real group rather than a couple squeezed into a studio.

A downtown address, and everything on foot
This is the centre of Cayenne, which means you can leave the car behind. The Place des Palmistes and its royal palms are a short walk away, as is the covered market, where spices, tropical fruit and Creole, Hmong and Brazilian flavours change hands each morning. Fort Cépérou, the birthplace of the city, and Saint-Sauveur cathedral are both reachable on foot, along with the streets of coloured colonial houses, the shops, the restaurants and the ordinary daily life of the neighbourhood.
